John McInnis is Pastor of Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church Navarre and has served on the church staff since 2013. John was married to Sheila for 47 years prior to her passing in 2015. John has four children and three grandchildren, with another one on the way in January. Matthew and Marissa live in Washington D.C., Miranda lives in Louisville, KY and Meredith lives in Pensacola.
John, born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was saved at the age of 8 and called to the Gospel Ministry at 12. His first church ministry position was in 1967 while attending William Carey University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 before enrolling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Both John and Sheila earned Master in Christian Education degrees. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth in 1972.
John and Sheila served as missionaries with the North American Mission Board in Texas and Kentucky. In Kentucky, John was Director of Inner City Ministry for the Northern Kentucky Baptist Association. John was Minister of Youth and Outreach at First Baptist Church, Pensacola 1974-1979. In 1979, he became Minister of Education at First Baptist Church, Orange Park.
The Florida Baptist Convention in Jacksonville called John to be the Associate Director of the Sunday School Department in 1983 where he served for 27 years until retiring in 2010.
John earned the Doctor of Educational Ministry degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2009, John became Adjunct Professor of Leadership and Christian Education at Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Florida.
